Thymol is used not only for the prevention of mite spread but also for the treatment of already infected bees. The product protects bees without harming the insects or the products they produce. When the medication contacts the brood or bee products, the bees independently remove it.
Description
Thymol is used in beekeeping at specific times of the year: early or mid-spring after the first cleansing flights, and in autumn, mainly to control Varroa mites and tracheal mites in bees. In rare cases, it can also help with foulbrood. Treatment against mites is permitted in the autumn, either a week before the honey harvest or immediately after it.
Thymol possesses:
- Antiseptic action
- Analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects
- Antimicrobial and fungicidal properties
- Anti-inflammatory activity
Composition
An organic-based product: thyme extract, methylphenol, isopropyl alcohol
Dosage
For treatment: spray 2.5 grams of the product inside the hive, calculated for 10 frames.
- Once a week for colonies with mild or no infestation.
- Every 4 days for colonies heavily infested by mites.
For prevention: Place cloth sachets filled with thymol crystals inside the hives for 12 days. Each sachet should contain 15 grams of thymol per bee colony.
- During the 12-day period, knead the sachets, and if significant evaporation of the active substance occurs, refill with additional crystals.
- Opening the hive is not recommended during the first 2 days to avoid reducing the treatment's effectiveness due to fresh air inflow. Mites will fall off the bees naturally, and Varroa reproduction will be suppressed.
Feeding with syrup and candy:
For candy: Mix 3 grams of thymol with 10 kg of candy (40 g per frame).
- Prevention: 1 application.
- Treatment: 3 applications at 5–6 day intervals.
For syrup feeding: Mix thymol in a 50% solution at 100 ml per bee frame.
Feed the bees in the evening and repeat the procedure 3 times at 4-day intervals.
Country of origin: India
Store in a dry, dark place at a temperature between +2°C and +25°C.
